Music in the Round presents Sounds of Now: Bastard Assignments
Thursday 19 May, 9.30pm – 10.30pm, Site Gallery Studio I
Tickets £5 – £10

Site Gallery’s Studio I will be host to Music in the Round’s Sounds of Now, which offers a platform for musicians who are creating and exploring artistic ideas, nurturing talent, inspiring new thinking and provoking debate.

Curated by Music in the Round Programme Manager and BBC Radio 3 presenter Tom McKinney, the new series launches in March and continues into May with a late-night performance by Bastard Assignments at Site on 19 May, 9.30pm.

The four composer-performers of Bastard Assignments; Timothy Cape, Edward Henderson, Caitlin Rowley and Josh Spear, integrate theatre, spoken word, choreography and visuals into their beautiful and endlessly surprising music, often coated with a deliciously wild sense of humour. They are also giving an afternoon workshop led by Sheffield CoMA (Contemporary Music for All), featuring new works for mixed ensemble.

The performance is part of Music in the Round’s Sheffield Chamber Music Festival (13–21 May 2022), a vibrant nine-day celebration of live music this year curated by composer Helen Grime MBE that features works by numerous unknown and living artists, as well as many more familiar names from the world of classical music, such as Beethoven, Mozart and Dvořák.

Sounds of Now continues in autumn 2022 and will include artists embracing advances in digital technology and multimedia.
