In their conversation, Appau Jnr Boakye-Yiadom and Rosie Cooper will reflect together on the process of making a new artwork, the intrinsically collaborative nature of production, and the moments of freedom in-between.

For his current exhibition Before, During & After: Here Now (How To Keep The Balance) Boakye-Yiadom’s collaboration and process was at the core of creating the audio visual installation. He worked on learning a single drum track over a three month period, and captured his journey through audio recordings, moving image and photography. He collaborated with photographers and videographers with a distinctly different approach, exploring ways of capturing live learning without the body in the frame or main subject of focus.

Rosie Cooper has been Director of Wysing Arts Centre since 2021, where she has led the organisation to a new chapter of national and international residencies, collaborations, commissions and an ambitious youth-led learning programme. Prior to that, she was Head of Exhibitions at the De La Warr Pavilion, Bexhill-on-Sea, and before that she was Head of Programmes at Liverpool Biennial (2012-16). She is Chair of Home Live Art, and Trustee of IntoArt. She is a judge of the Turner Prize in 2024.
