For art
For Sheffield
For the Future

This £2.7 million Capital Project sees our much-loved, experimental and international contemporary visual art gallery expand by three times its current size.

By transforming the old film studios adjoining our 1916 red-brick building, we will create an art street in the heart of Sheffield’s Cultural Industries Quarter.

The development is creating a stunning new naturally lit gallery, a 40 seat café, a reception, shop, education space, business event suite and a set of new rental business units. It is also providing a unique, creative environment for our innovative educational work.

For 35 years Site Gallery has supported extraordinary artists. From presenting the UK’s first ever augmented reality sculpture show, curating Britain’s first Virtual Reality art exhibition and premiering leading international internet superstars such as Eva and Franco Mattes, we are known for our pioneering work with artists who work with new technology.

This expansion will enable the production of experimental, multi-media artworks requiring additional space, height and technological infrastructure.

The Site Gallery expansion will create:

A New Gallery:
Three times the size of our current spaces, the new galleries have no obstructing beams, have zones of natural light and are technically flexible allowing artists to reconfigure the spaces in any which way according to their singular, specific needs. Visitors will have enough space to see works at their best and will enjoy spending time in the gallery.

A New Café:
With more than double the floor space and three times the kitchen and servery facilities, the new café will be a destination in its own right. Offering high quality catering for events as well as providing a warm, friendly social space for visitors from both near and far.

A New Shop and Reception:
A warm welcome will be provided by a spacious reception area, including a reading area and artwork in the public areas. A newly designed shop, connected to the reception area,  will offer the space to expand our popular range of products, selected from local artists and creative producers.

A New Events and Education Space:
On the ground floor, we will create a highly accessible events and education suite with great facilities, which will support our existing educational work, enable the development of a vibrant new public programme, schools programme and grow our business events and hires business.

Great Access and Facilities:
With excellent level access provided throughout the public spaces and a suite of new, accessible public toilets, the overall experience of visiting Site Gallery will be enhanced throughout.
