Site Gallery has secured major investment to realise ambitious plans which will see our current building treble in scale. The development will bring key changes for artists and visitors, including much larger galleries (increasing by over 200%), providing space to reflect and respond to works.
Site’s long-standing commitment to education will benefit from a new education and events space on the ground floor and a new, naturally lit entrance will improve access and navigation around the building. Alongside this, commercial opportunities will be created to generate new income through lets, hires, retail and catering, ensuring the new operation is financially resilient. It is anticipated that construction work would begin early in 2016, with the expanded gallery opening in the summer of 2017.
Arts Council England has offered a grant of £970,000 towards the project, through its Large-scale Capital Programme. Last month Sheffield City Council pledged £125,000 and granted a lease on the new unit. The total budget for the project is £1.7million.
In addition to this announcement, Arts Council England have also confirmed we will continue to receive annual revenue funding through the National Portfolio Organisation programme 2015-18, amounting to £582,321 over three years.
