The opening of major touring exhibition Jerwood Survey III at Site Gallery, including a special live performance from exhibiting artist and musician Alliyah Enyo.
Jerwood Survey presented new artworks by 10 early-career artists from across the UK, providing a snapshot of current concerns and approaches in the visual arts.
The works in the exhibition explored ideas of kinship and love, centred feminist and queer perspectives, or invoked spiritual, folkloric and cultural traditions to tell stories and imagine other worlds.
Exhibiting artists: Che Applewhaite, Aqsa Arif, MV Brown, Philippa Brown, Alliyah Enyo, Sam Keelan, Paul Nataraj, Ciarán Ó Dochartaigh, Ebun Sodipo, Kandace Siobhan Walker.
Activating her installation, Aphotic Archaeology, Alliyah Enyo performed an ethereal story echoing a futuristic aphotic apocalypse (an apocalypse in a deep sea) and a strange creature that woke up there. The music from the performance ~ I dream wide awake ~ is available on Bandcamp now.
