Drawing from the fields of art, literature, psychology and science, Martin’s new work experimentally adapts Franz Kafka’s modernist short story of the same name. Originally written in 1924, A Hunger Artist presents an ambiguous allegory about performer who publicly fasts for weeks on end.

Join us for a conversation around the making of the film and decision to adapt this particular text, as well as major themes that resonate throughout both Martin and Kafka’s works – voyeurism, shifting power relations, spectatorship and bodily transformations.
Read a review of the production on Corridor 8.
