4pm – 6.30pm: On The Road Art Van

Join Site Gallery from 4pm for talks, workshops and activities, to celebrate the debut outing and activation of our On The Road art van, as part of the Floating Cinema weekend in Sheffield.

This mobile contemporary gallery/workshop space has been co-designed by architects Public Works and the Society of Explorers, who will be presenting a free public workshop. This is a rare chance to check out and help construct this extraordinary art space for the first time, with the team who designed it, before it sets off on its journey around Sheffield over the summer.

ACTIVITIES INCLUDE:

A chance to collaborate with Public Works and the Society of Explorers as we assemble our art van for the first time
Print your own tshirts and bags  (led by Angga Kara, Learn Create Sell)
Discover more about temporary art zones with contributions from Public Works, artists Chris Jarratt, Ben Judd, David McLeavy and the Society of Explorers.

Suitable for 12+

No need to book – just show up and sign in.

7PM – 8.30PM: SITE SESSIONS: THE MOBILE IMAGINATION

At 7pm the van will be transformed to host the third of our Site Sessions events. This lively discussion series brings together art, science, technology and more (previous events covered Art, Science and the Truth and The New Economies).

This time, we’ll be taking a sidelong look at mobile spaces of the imagination – past, present and future. Historian Dr Ralph Harrington will set the scene, with an engaging talk about the relationship between transport and art. With a floating cinema and an innovative new art van to hand, there will be plenty to inspire new thinking, so come armed with questions and ideas to share, as always.

No need to book – just show up and sign in.
