Every week a group of young people from Sheffield meet at Site Gallery, to sing together and to write new music inspired by the different exhibitions we show.

Weekly workshops are every Saturday at 2 – 3.30pm.

If you think this is for you, why not come along to try a workshop?

There are no auditions, and nothing to pay. No previous experience of singing or song writing is necessary.

The project is designed especially for 11–18 year olds. Every week, Nick Cox – producer/arranger/writer/musician – will work with you and support you as you develop new musical skills. A versatile and experienced musician and producer, Nick runs a studio and plays in the band Screaming Maldini, described by The Guardian as creating“the poppiest, most energetic sound…overflowing with beautiful yet hyper and over the top melodies.”  He also sings alto at Sheffield Cathedral and embraces a variety of projects from writing and producing to arranging parts for a 40-piece orchestra.

The project is delivered in partnership between Sheffield Music Hub and Site Gallery.

Singing in the Gallery will run for two years from October 2013. All activity will take place at Site Gallery during term time but out of school hours.

It is part of a South Yorkshire partnership between Barnsley, Doncaster and Sheffield funded by Youth Music’s ‘Excellence Through Group Singing’ programme.
