The series was made popular by Mazdazdan, a cult of body consciousness that swept through Europe from the early twentieth century. In Exercises in Empathy, Ian presents an array of materials relating to Swiss artist and Bauhaus teacher Johannes Itten (1888-1967), who was a devoted follower of Mazdaznan.

This movement workshop is open to up to 10 participants. It will take place in our studio space, and will include breath work, standing and floor-based exercises. It is suitable for participants who have a basic level of fitness – some of the movements may be challenging, but we will try to accommodate all abilities.

Please wear every-day clothing (not sportswear) – e.g. jeans and a t-shirt. We will be working in bare feet or socks. Yoga mats will be supplied, but do bring your own if you would prefer. Refreshments will be provided following the conclusion of the movement portion of the class.

At the end of the class, participants will be photographed and this image will serve as reference for a drawing by the artist to illustrate a new book on the Egyptian Postures.

Each participant will receive a copy of the resultant photograph. Consent is required from participants to be photographed during the workshop.

A full schedule of the workshop will be available here shortly.
