Exhibitions Policy

Site Gallery's exhibition programme maintains a commitment to show both national and international work, maintaining a balance between photography, installation, electronic media and film & video work. The gallery originates all exhibitions through internal or external curation and aims to offer commissions from the i-lab (the gallery's in-house production facilities and staff) if appropriate. The policy is to show innovative, challenging and creative work of international standard as well as emergent talent. A balance is sought between one person shows of high profile artists, group shows bringing together established artists and artists at the beginning of their career and exhibitions addressing contemporary debates and issues. There is also a commitment to support the dynamic field of live art by means of a regular festival. The gallery also aims to support artists at the beginning of their careers by means of an exhibition & commissioning scheme for emergent artists working in the north of England. All exhibitions are free to enter and are contextualised with educational and/or practical events.

Exhibitions Proposals

The gallery accepts proposals from artists. In addition to the main exhibition spaces Site has a projection window on the top floor of the building to be viewed from outside and screens work here on a regular basis. There is also the opportunity to exhibit work in the café area which is an ideal space for work for sale. The gallery also accepts proposals for these spaces.

Proposals should usually be accompanied by CV, statement about the work and visual material. Proposals can be submitted in print, email or CD-Rom, DVD or web based formats. Digital submissions should be formatted for Mac computers. All proposals will be acknowledged within 5 working days and are discussed at the curatorial programming meetings which are held twice a year, in February and August. It is therefore recommended you submit proposals by January for the meeting held in February and July for the meeting held in August. Proposals should be sent to Jeanine Griffin (jeanine@sitegallery.org)

Commissioning & Residencies

Site maintains a commitment to commission and facilitate the production of new work. There are also opportunities to submit projects and proposals which involve accessing the technical facilities and support provided by the I-lab. Please contact the Technical Manager on tech@sitegallery.org to discuss your project and what support you require. Artists with proposals for new work should contact the gallery as above. For full details of available residency opportunities please see the residencies section. )
