An exhibition about value & uniqueness and the means and context in which we make value judgements. In the centre of the gallery is a machine which shreds snapshot photographs (for which there are no negatives) unless they are saved by a viewer placing their hand on a plaque. In order to avoid destruction the photos must have value ascribed to them by the viewer.

In George Sluizer’s film, “The Vanishing”, the final denouement is terrifying. The point at the end of the film when the character “Rex” realises he is buried alive after which the camera comes above ground is extraordinarily disturbing and deeply uncanny.

An exhibition looking at the crossovers apparent within the media of photography, painting and film in the work of Uta Barth, Duncan Higgins and Carter Potter. In the work of each artist the content seems to lie not in what the images depict but elsewhere – meaning seems to have moved to the margins – to the frame.

Horses and lens-based media came into conjunction with Eadweard Muybridge’s experimental photographs of a horse at gallop in 1872 which reversed the accepted beliefs about animal locomotion by proving that all four hooves leave the ground at once
