The mesmerising and meditative qualities of the work of Guido van der Werve in his Site exhibition: Minor Pieces, were explored by Sheffield Young Writers in a short project where they were encouraged to spent time interpreting the exhibition through a range of creative writing exercises to create there own word-based responses. Individuals wandered between the different works with given tasks as a starting point to trigger their own internal reactions. The group used free writing, modern Haiku and the techniques of Natalie Goldberg’s Writing Practice as ways of exploring and interpreting some of the themes, ideas and feelings they experienced through the work.
Sheffield Young Writers [SYW] offers a range of opportunities for young writers [14 to 18s] develop their writing interests with the support of professional writers and facilitators. Visit www.cubeweb.org.uk/sywriters for more information.
