Join artist Steve Maher at Abandon Normal Devices Festival for a metal detector adventure like no other.
Heavy Metal Detector is a cross-between a walk, workshop and performance, that has been specially commissioned for scanning the surface of the historic site of Castleton, giving you the opportunity to become a metal-detector for the day, with a twist.
Each detector has been hacked so every time metal is detected Heavy Metal music plays through your headphones. You can take the metal detectors out for yourselves and explore metal music buried in the landscape around Castleton. Bands featured: Immension, Normaliser, The Death Rays of Arilla, Deformation of Man, Opinicus and more.
Heavy Metal tours will be led from 1pm – 6pm from Friday 22nd to Sunday 24th. We will be departing from the Site Gallery Art Van which will be parked up next to the Formation exhibition, at Castleton Garage Forecourt, Buxton Road, Castleton, Hope Valley, Derbyshire, S33 8WP
No need to book for the tours, just meet us at the garage about ten minutes before we set off.
The Society of Explorers have worked with Steve to organise ‘make your own fake metal band’ workshops between 11 – 12pm on Saturday 23 and Sunday 24 September. Simply pick a band name and we’ll turn it into badges and patches in a heavy metal style, for you to take home.
To sign up to the workshop or to find out more information please email firstname.lastname@example.org or call 07719869606
No heavy metal experience required.
